Artist's Description

8 x 10 (framed Black matted 11 x 14") acrylic and vintage US postage stamps by Everett Spruill. Featuring a 2002 mint 34c stamp of Langston Hughes. James Mercer Langston Hughes was an American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist from Joplin, Missouri. He moved to New York City as a young man, where he made his career. Postage stamps have played a big part in my love of art. My grandmother introduced me to the hobby at an early age...I had stamps from all over the world that featured the art of the world's greatest in miniature.....it stuck with me....so to this day I continue to collect literally EVERY commemorative stamp issued by the US since 1965. I have so many stamps that I decided to make them a part of my art in a way that is relevant to the painting...African stamps are amazing.

I also had an ear for music so mom insisted I have voice and piano lessons". For more than 30 years Everett, a self-taught artist, has...
